Expect sunny atmosphere, thunderstorms across Nigeria, NiMet forecasts

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted sunshine and cloudiness from Saturday to Monday across the country.

NiMet’s weather outlook released on Friday in Abuja predicted a sunny and dry atmosphere over the northeastern region on Saturday.

It further predicted sunny conditions with patches of clouds over the northwestern region with prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of southern Kebbi in the afternoon and evening period.

“Cloudy atmosphere is expected over the North-Central region with prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Niger, Benue and Kogi state in the afternoon and evening period.

“The inland and coastal cities of the South are expected to be cloudy with prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Lagos, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Delta and Ondo state in the morning hours.

“In the afternoon and evening period, there are prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Ekiti, Ogun, Imo, Ondo, Edo, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Lagos, Bayelsa, Rivers and Cross River,” it said.

The agency forecast sunny weather with patches of clouds over the northern region on Sunday with prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Southern Kaduna, Southern Kebbi, Zamfara, Adamawa and Taraba in the afternoon and evening period.

It further forecast a cloudy atmosphere over the North-Central region with prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Niger, Kogi and Kwara during the afternoon and evening period.

NiMet envisaged the inland and coastal cities of the South to be cloudy.

It predicted thunderstorms over Akwa Ibom in the morning hours and over Ekiti, Ogun, Imo, Ondo, Edo, Oyo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers and Cross River during the afternoon and evening hours.

The agency anticipated a sunny atmosphere on Monday with patches of clouds over the Northern region throughout the forecast period.

It forecast a cloudy atmosphere over the North-Central in the morning with prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Niger, Kogi, Kwara and the Federal Capital Territory during the afternoon and evening hours.

“The inland and coastal cities of the South are expected to be cloudy with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Lagos, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River in the morning hours.

Also, the prospects of thunderstorms over Ekiti, Ogun, Imo, Ondo, Edo, Oyo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Bayelsa, Rivers and Cross River during the afternoon and evening hours,” it said.
