Farmer arraigned over alleged gun possession

A 38-year-old farmer, Abubakar Muhammadu, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly being in possession of locally made pistol with one live cartridge.

The police charged Muhammadu with unlawful possession of live cartridge.

The Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Femi Omilana, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on February 16, at about 10am at Akinyele area, Ibadan.

Mr Omilana alleged that the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of why he was in possession of a cartridge.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 428 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs G. Oladele, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 and two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until May 23 for hearing.
