Farmer arraigned over alleged theft of N100,000 worth of cocoa seeds

A 32-year-old farmer, Femi Balogun, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State for allegedly stealing cocoa seeds worth N100,000.
The defendant, whose address was not given, is facing a count charge bordering on stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against him.
The Prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on October 12 about 8.00 a.m. at Oronyo camp, Ode-Aye in Okitipupa magisterial district.
Mr Orogbemi said that the cocoa seeds belonged to one Isiaka Wasiu
He said the offence is contrary and punishable under Section 390 (9), Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The Chief Magistrate, Philip Akinlosetu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with a surety in like sum.
He said that the surety must reside within the court jurisdiction and present evidence of two year tax payment to the state government.
He adjourned the case until December 12, for further hearing.
