Fashion, costume designer Bob Mackie dies at 87

American fashion designer Bob Mackie has died.

Mr Mackie was 87.

His team announced the news on Instagram Monday, stating, “It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Mr Bob Mackie passed away today.”

“He lived his 87 years to the fullest, fulfilling his dream of being a Fashion and Costume Designer, which is all he ever wanted to do. His genius and extraordinary designs will live on forever, continuing to bring beauty into this world.”

Mr Mackie was born on March 24, 1939, in Monterey Park, California, United States, and began his career as a professional designer in 1961, starting as a sketch artist.

His big break came after he was hired to design costumes for The Carol Burnett Show for over a decade,

Mr Mackie was one of Hollywood’s most prominent designers, sought after by celebrities such as Cher, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Elton John, Bette Midler, Liza Minnelli, Barbra Streisand, and Madonna.

Throughout his career, he earned nine Emmy Awards and a Tony Award for his amazing work in costume design.
