The Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Ekiti has issued a 21-day ultimatum to Governor Kayode Fayemi to pay workers outstanding salaries, criticising the administration’s refusal to remit contributory funds to the appropriate quarters.

In a statement signed by its chairman, Sola Adigun, after the union’s state executive council’s meeting, TUC said, “The meeting demands that the government should set machinery in motion within the next 21 days to meet up with the demands, failing which industrial harmony will no longer be guaranteed.”

TUC advised Mr Fayemi to pay the arrears as promised during his election campaign in 2018 and before his tenure ends on October 15, 2022.

It criticised the Ekiti government’s refusal to remit deducted dues such as a contributory pension, cooperative deductions, and bank loan repayment, among others.

The union said redeeming such a pledge would further reinforce workers’ trust in the APC-led administration in Ekiti and smoothen the relationship with the Governor-elect Biodun Oyebanji.

Also, TUC appealed to Mr Fayemi to implement the minimum wage across the state and upgrade health facilities.

It further condemned the rate of kidnapping in Ekiti, urging Mr Fayemi to safeguard lives and property.
