Fear spreads over renewed terrorists’ attack on Kwara community

Panic overwhelmed residents of Gbugbu community in the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State on Sunday following an alleged invasion of the community by suspected terrorists.
Reports said the gunmen attacked the community after 8:00 pm.
One of the residents, who spoke on condition of anonymity to Peoples Gazette, said that the gunmen shot non-stop across the town.
“As it is now, no confirmation has been made yet regarding the number of casualties or villagers abducted,” the resident said. “The bandits stormed the community immediately after Isa’i shooting non-stop while throwing residents into panic. Everyone is indoors.”
The state police spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, could not be immediately reached for comment on the latest attack.
The development worsened the insecurity in different parts of the state, including Edu, Patigi, Ifelodun and Oyun LGAs.
Days after terrorists stormed Woro and Nuku communities of Kaiama LGA in the state, killing many residents and kidnapping several others, they also invaded Share in the Ifelodun LGA but were repelled by a combined team of security agents.
The Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, on Thursday, launched Joint Task Force Operation Savannah Shield to combat insecurity in Kwara State and parts of Niger State.
