The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Bauchi State chapter, on Wednesday distributed sanitary pad to 50 adolescent girls as part of activities marking the 2026 World Menstrual Hygiene Day.

The association also sensitised the girls to menstrual hygiene management, as well as myths and misconceptions surrounding menstruation.

The engagement was held at the Jibrin Aminu Model Secondary School, Bauchi.

The Chairperson of NAWOJ, Rashida Yusuf, said the initiative was aimed at strengthening the knowledge and capacity of adolescent girls on menstrual hygiene.

Ms Yusuf said the association remained committed to promoting the welfare of women and girls, particularly in the areas of health and education.

She encouraged the girls to share the knowledge gained with their peers and community members.

She added, “We want girls to understand that menstruation is a natural process and that proper hygiene practices are essential for their health and wellbeing.

“This sensitisation programme will continue from time to time to ensure that girls are better informed and empowered to manage their menstrual health effectively.”

She also urged the girls to maintain self-confidence and practise good hygiene during their menstrual periods.

In his remarks, the principal of the school, Mohammed Abdurrahman, thanked the association for the gesture and concern shown to the students.

He described the intervention as timely and beneficial, noting that it would contribute to improving the health and wellbeing of the students.
