The Federal Government through the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (P-CNGI) has delivered 150 Compressed Natural Gas conversion kits for installation to commercial vehicles in Kaduna.

Coordinator, Logistics and Supply chain of the initiative, Thomos Ayu, made this known at one of the conversion centres on Saturday in Kaduna.

According to him, the aim is to distribute the 10,0000 conversion kits to ensure that the commercial transport sector is fully equipped to adopt CNG in the state.

He said the initiative was handing over 150 CNG kits cylinders to its partners to improve the transport sector and reduce the impact in the price of fuel across the country.

He said the conversion kits would be distributed and installed for free to commercial vehicles in Zaria, Peugeot Kakuri, and Royal Energies in Kakau.

“We have Rolling Energies as one of our partners that would convert vehicles to CNG on behalf of the programme with kits for 6 and 4 cylinder cars,” he said.

Mr Ayu said the introduction of CNG as a fuel source aligned with the government’s drive towards energy diversification, adding that it was designed to bring immediate relief to Nigerians, especially those who depend on transport for their livelihood.

He urged motorists and vehicle owners to adopt the CNG initiative, saying, “It offers a cheaper alternative to fuel because of its low consumption rate, and user-friendliness.”

Manager, Rolling Energies, Abubakar Sadiq, commended the initiative for delivering 50 kits for distribution to commercial vehicles.

”The kits are to be installed to commercial vehicles on a first-come first-served basis for the first 50 cars to be certified. Vehicles are to undergo inspection to certify that they are fit for conversion before installation.

”This will enable commercial drivers to switch their vehicles to run on CNG, thus easing the cost burdens for both transporters and the public,” the manager noted.

Mr Sadiq stated that the kits were to be installed at no cost to transport operators through key national transport associations, including the National Union of Road Transport Workers and the Kaduna State Transport Authority.
