Fire razes livestock, silos in Kano community

Fire raged on Thursday killing many livestock and grain silos at Danzago community in the Damabatta Local Government Area of in Kano State.
This is contained in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, in Kano.
It stated, “We received an emergency call from a resident of the community, one Abdurashid Sha’aibu, at about 10:48 a.m.
On receiving the information, we quickly sent our rescue team at about 11:22 a.m to the scene.’’
He said that on arrival, the rescue team found one family house, known as gidan Ado Yubai, engulfed by fire.
The PRO further explained that the house, located within 200 x 200 ft with nine sides, 17 rooms, and one store, were completely razed by the fire.
The official said that the fire killed two cows, 36 sheep, 17 goats, and 10 chickens, while 19 silos were affected.
“But with God’s intervention, we managed to save two sheep, four cows, a silo, and other valuables,” he said.
The PRO said the fire overpowered the firefighters and later spread to another family house of Ibrahim Mai Gariyo within 150 x 150 ft, burning items in many rooms, one local food storage (silos), eight sheep, and three goats.
He stated, “Our men were able to save one local food storage and other valuables and stopped the fire from affecting other neighbouring houses. During the rescue, one of our workers got burnt on his leg while putting out the fire.”
Mr Abdullahi said the cause of the fire had yet to be ascertained as an investigation had commenced to unravel the cause.
He said there was no life lost from the incident.
