First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has charged women to unite and actively support one another to bridge a huge gap in female representation in politics and leadership positions.

She gave the charge at the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Women National Summit and Dialogue held on Saturday in Abuja.

The summit themed, ‘Empowering APC Women For Leadership and National Building,” was also attended by Nana Shettima, the vice president’s wife.

“My charge to you all today is for women to unite and actively support each other, especially when pursuing elective positions or advancing in leadership.

“Let us rally around one another, provide necessary encouragement, support and understanding,” she said.

Mrs Tinubu said the role of women in leadership is crucial to national development because their insights, experiences, and perspectives are valued for providing essential feedback and ensuring that the needs and aspirations of citizens across the nation are addressed.

“The Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu places a strong emphasis on creating opportunities for women to thrive economically, socially, and politically.

“In this administration, we have witnessed increased representation of women in key positions within our party and government.

“This is a proof of the hard work, resilience, and determination we exhibit as women, and we must continue to push forward in unity,” she said.

The First Lady thanked all the women for their commitment, passion, and support for the party and the current administration.

She specifically appreciated the summit convener, the APC national women leader, Mary Idele, the deputy national women leader, Zainab Ibrahim and members of the party’s executive for organising the event.

Ms Idele, in a welcome address, called on the women to do more for a better future for the country as a whole.

She noted that the present administration has witnessed increased representation of women in key positions within the party and government.

Ms Idele also complained of a huge gap in female representation in politics and leadership positions and called for more support for women to thrive.

Another party leader, Noimat Salajo-Oyedele, the deputy governor of Ogun State, called on the women to be united at her address.
