Five men arraigned in Ekiti over alleged illegal firearm possession

Five persons – Seun Oyebanji, Ige Dada, Ajibade Simeon, Rasaki Adedipe and Anichukwu James – on Tuesday appealed before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged illegal possession of firearms.
Mr Oyebanji, 32; Mr Dada, 45; Mr Simeon, 45; Mr Rasaki 50 and Mr James, 40, are facing a two-count charge of possession of a firearm and breach of peace.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants committed to the offences on June 8 in Aramoko-Ekiti.
Mr Oriyomi alleged that the police, during a routine patrol, caught the defendants with unlicensed firearms.
He also said that Mr James conducted himself in a manner likely to breach public peace.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 47 and 181 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The defence counsel, Busuyi Ayorinde, urged the court to grant his clients bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each with one surety each in like sum.
Mr Adeosun adjourned the case until July 31 for mention.
