Fix more roads, improve governance, CDHR tells FG

The Committee for Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), on Friday, urged the federal government to intensify efforts at infrastructure development and improved governance to aid businesses and enhance living standards.
The president of CDHR, Debo Adeniran, gave the advice at the organisation’s Citizens Accountability and Rights Forum, a monthly stakeholders’ interactive roundtable on public policymaking and execution.
The event held in Lagos.
The forum was organised by CDHR in collaboration with the Centre for Anti- Corruption and Open Leadership.
Mr Adeniran commended the federal government for improving the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
He, however, expressed dissatisfaction at the poor state of some other roads, saying that it caused accidents and wear and tear on vehicles.
Mr Adeniran said that the federal government should give more attention to rehabilitation and upgrade of more highways to reduce the suffering of the motoring public.
“FG needs to work on all aspects of our social lives from transportation and security, to education and judiciary.
“Cases of corruption should be given accelerated hearing and those found wanting should get adequate punishments as deterrents to others,” he said.
He appealed that the government should continue to equip the military well to fight insecurity.
He regretted that insecurity had resulted in food scarcity and high cost of living as citizens were afraid to go to farms.
