The Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of  Lagos State has appealed to its residents to complement the government’s efforts by adopting responsible waste disposal practices.

The council Chairman, Sesan Olowa, made this known in Lagos on Tuesday while visiting various communities to assess the flooding  situation and engage directly with affected residents.

Acknowledging the environmental factors contributing to flooding, Mr Olowa said the visit was in response to the recent flooding that affected residents and impacted property in the Akodo community of the area.

“The visit reflects this  administration’s proactive approach to responding to community concerns, engaging residents directly, and pursuing sustainable solutions for a safer and more resilient Ibeju-Lekki.

“I urge residents to desist from dumping waste in drainage paths and unauthorised locations.

“It is important to know that environmental protection requires a collective effort between the government and the community,” he said.

The chairman also expressed concerns over the challenges faced by the people and assured residents of the local government’s commitment to addressing issues affecting the community.

Mr Olowa said the council would commence necessary interventions after the rainy season to improve road stability and drainage conditions in the affected areas.

The chairman added that the intervention would help  to enhance water flow and reduce the impact of flooding.

He said the council continued to invest significantly in environmental sanitation, including the evacuation of waste around the Akodo General Hospital, yet indiscriminate dumping of refuse persisted.

The chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening environmental management and ensuring the wellbeing of residents.
