Flutterwave CEO, Dr Adadevoh, others for national honours

They have been named among the 437 Nigerians who will receive the 2022 National Honours Award.

• October 9, 2022

Flutterwave CEO Olugbenga Agboola and heroic Nigerian doctor Ameyo Adadevoh, who died of the Ebola virus while quarantining a Liberian patient, Patrick Sawyer, in a Lagos medical facility, have been named among the 437 Nigerians who will receive the 2022 National Honours Award.

Mr Agboola’s flutterwave was valued at more than $3 billion in February 2022 after it received $250 million in Series D funding, establishing the fintech firm as Africa’s most valuable startup.

Since its inception, Flutterwave has processed over 200 million transactions worth over $16 billion and served over 900,000 businesses worldwide.

Since the deadly Ebola scourge ravaged West Africa in 2014, Ms Adadevoh has become a household name.

During the Ebola outbreak, she was the Lead Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist at First Consultants Medical Centre in Ikoyi, where she had worked for over 20 years. She became a heroine after identifying and containing the first Ebola case in Nigeria, effectively saving millions of people from the disease.

Her actions enabled Nigerian healthcare officials to quickly contain the disease and declare Nigeria Ebola-free within 93 days.

Mr Olugbenga and the late Ms Adadevoh will be among those honoured with the national honor of Order of the Niger (OON). Other recipients of the OON include Abike Dabiri, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, and Femi Adesina, media aide to president Muhammadu Buhari.

Also on the national honours list is the minister of works and housing Babatunde Fashola (CON), Ooni of Ife (CFR), Lai Mohammed (CON), Timipre Sylva (CON) and late nationalist Anthony Enahoro (CON).
