The Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Epe, Lagos, Dr Adeleke Kaka, has said the centre will establish a wellness clinic to improve residents’ wellbeing.

Mr Kaka made the disclosure during an interview in Epe, on Tuesday.

“FMC Epe management is making plans to establish a wellness clinic where people can periodically assess their general health and organ functions such as the kidneys, liver, and eyes.

Mr Kaka said, “The initiative will help in the early detection of health conditions that could otherwise become debilitating and affect people’s economic productivity and family welfare.’’

He emphasised that many chronic illnesses can be prevented or better managed if detected early through routine medical screening.

“Some individuals lose their capacity to work and earn a living due to conditions that could have been detected early. Preventive care reduces this risk and promotes national productivity,” he said.

He pointed out that hospitals aren’t just for treating illnesses but also play a role in promoting overall health and wellness and helping people prevent diseases in the first place.

The medical director encouraged Nigerians to take charge of their health by adopting preventive healthcare practices, rather than waiting until they fall ill before seeking medical attention.

Mr Kaka also advised Nigerians to engage more with healthcare professionals for guidance and health education, stressing that awareness and knowledge remain powerful tools in maintaining good health and preventing lifestyle-related diseases.

“Knowledge is power, when you know more about your body, you can make better choices to keep yourself healthy,” he said.

He advised people to develop healthy habits such as eating a balanced diet, drinking clean water, exercising regularly, and having regular medical checkups to stay on top of their health.
