Former Gov Oyetola condemns attacks on APC supporters in Osun

Adegboyega Oyetola, the minister of marine and blue economy, has condemned recent attacks on political supporters in Osun State and urged stakeholders to embrace peaceful campaigns ahead of the governorship election.
Mr Oyetola made the call in a statement on Wednesday.
The minister described reports of attacks on supporters of the All Progressives Congress in parts of the state as unfortunate and inconsistent with democratic principles.
“Political contests must never degenerate into intimidation, attacks or bloodshed,” Mr Oyetola said.
He urged political actors across party lines to conduct their activities responsibly and avoid actions that could heighten tensions in the state.
Mr Oyetola also called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to refrain from what he described as incessant blackmail and attempts to mislead the public over the recent attacks.
He said, “The people know the truth, and no amount of propaganda can change it. The recent attacks against APC members in the state are deeply unfortunate and unacceptable in a democracy.”
The minister accused the governor of “weaponising insecurity for political gains”, saying such tactics would not halt the growing support for the APC ahead of the governorship election.
“No amount of propaganda or diversionary tactics will change the will of the people,” Mr Oyetola said.
He called on the police, the State Security Service and other security agencies to maintain law and order throughout the campaign period.
Mr Oyetola urged security agencies to ensure the safety of all citizens, irrespective of political affiliation.
He also sympathised with victims of the attacks and reiterated that democracy should be anchored on peace, fairness and respect for the rule of law.
