Former lawmaker calls for synergy to tackle banditry, kidnapping, others

Jerry Alagbaoso, a former member of the House of Representatives from Imo, has urged Nigerians to put all hands on deck to address the issue of insecurity in Nigeria.
Mr Alagbaoso made the call in an interview with journalists on Saturday in Abuja.
According to him, the rise in incidents of terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and communal violence, was alarming and calls for deep concern for the safety and well-being of Nigerians.
“There is the need for collaborative efforts to combat the pervasive threats that have plagued the nation in recent years.
Drawing from his experience in public service, the former lawmaker proposed a multi-faceted approach to address the complex security challenges facing the country.
“It is very important to enhance intelligence gathering and sharing among security agencies, improve border security measures and invest in modern technology to bolster security infrastructure,” he said.
Mr Alagbaoso called for increased support for law enforcement agencies, including adequate training, equipment and welfare packages to boost their capacity to effectively combat criminal elements.
He, however, advocated for community engagement initiatives aimed at fostering trust between security personnel and residents, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of crime prevention efforts.
He urged political leaders, security agencies, civil society organisations and citizens to set aside their differences, and work together towards a common goal of restoring peace and security in Nigeria.
Mr Alagbaoso advised the citizens to be very cautious and vigilant always.
