A non-governmental organisation, EMMANU Foundation, has facilitated the release of 100 inmates, paid hospital bills, and supported orphanages as part of its outreach efforts in Adamawa.

Emmanuel Musa, founder of the NGO, disclosed this on Tuesday in Yola.

The formal release was held at the Adamawa State headquarters of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).

The inmates, who regained freedom, were drawn from ten correctional centres across the state after the foundation paid fines required to meet conditions for their release.

Mr Musa said the intervention was aimed at addressing social challenges and giving beneficiaries a fresh opportunity to rebuild their lives.

“Each freed inmate will receive N10,000 as transport to return to their communities, amounting to N1 million for 100 of them.

“The foundation would sponsor vocational training for interested beneficiaries and provide start-up tools to promote self-reliance.

“Scholarships would also be offered to beneficiaries willing to return to school or pursue professional education,” he said.

According to him, the foundation had constructed and furnished classroom blocks in Yola correctional facility to enhance educational activities for inmates.

Mr Musa advised the freed inmates to live responsibly, embrace forgiveness and avoid actions that could lead them to return to the facilities.

In his remark, Odunlami Ajani, Adamawa State Comptroller of NCoS, commended the initiative, saying the intervention was a major contribution to decongesting correctional facilities and promoting rehabilitation.

Mr Ajani acknowledged the foundation’s support for education, entrepreneurship and vocational training programmes within correctional centres across the state.

The foundation visited two hospitals, and orphanage homes in Yola in furtherance of its humanitarian outreach.

According to Mr Musa, the hospital visit is aimed at settling medical bills for indigent patients.

He added that the donation of food items, cash and other essential materials to orphanage homes, was to support the welfare of vulnerable children.

Mr Musa mentioned that the foundation consistently undertakes humanitarian activities, including emergency relief, youth skills acquisition, cash assistance and scholarships for students in tertiary institutions.

According to him, the initiative reflects the foundation’s commitment to human development and social welfare in Adamawa and beyond.
