Four remanded over alleged looting of truck, murder

An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday, ordered the remand of four persons in a correctional facility over alleged armed robbery and murder.
They are Moshood Adesanmi, 38, Abiodun Akinboye, 30, Nathaniel Adedokun, 54, and Tiamiyu Sarafa, 45.
The defendants, whose addresses were not provided, are facing charges of alleged conspiracy, armed robbery, murder and receiving stolen property.
The Magistrate, Adebola Adeola, did not take the plea of the defendants for lack of jurisdiction and consequently directed the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
She, thereafter, adjourned the case until December 5 for mention.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Iyabo Oladoyin, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on July 23, at 10.00 p.m. in Akinyele area of Ibadan.
Ms Oladoyin said the defendants conspired with others at large to attack one Taiwo Adegboyega, while armed with guns, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.
She alleged that the defendants robbed Adegboyega, who was an escort attached to a MACK truck loaded with household goods worth N100 million.
The prosecutor said the goods were to be delivered to the camp of people living with disabilities in Borno State. She said the defendants also robbed one Rasak Adeyemi and dispossessed him of his truck.
Ms Oladoyin also alleged that the defendants caused the death of the 27-year-old Adegboyega.
She added that Adedokun and others, also received a container loaded with household goods from Adesanmi and Akinboye, knowing that the same was snatched at gunpoint, from the rightful owner.
She said the offences contravened Sections 516, 319 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000, and Sections 6 (b), 1(2) of the Robbery and Firearms Laws of Nigeria, 2004.
