The Federal Road Safety Corps has announced the commencement of a special intervention patrol code-named ‘Operation Whirlwind’ along the Abuja-Kaduna and Kaduna-Abuja corridors.

The operation, scheduled between Tuesday and Thursday, will start daily at 6:00 a.m., according to a statement signed by route commander Usman Garba on Monday.

Mr Garba said the operation aimed to address critical traffic offences identified as major contributors to road traffic crashes and loss of life.

He said the enforcement would focus particularly on speeding, overloading and route violations, among other traffic offences.

According to him, the operation is a joint effort involving operatives from the FRSC Kaduna sector command, Kakau unit command, the police, and the army.

He said the operation would strictly enforce traffic regulations, and a mobile court would also be deployed to facilitate prompt prosecution of offenders under extant laws.

The sector commander, Andrew Longkam, urged motorists plying the Abuja-Kaduna and Kaduna-Abuja corridors to adhere to traffic rules and regulations strictly.

Mr Longkam advised motorists to avoid speeding and overloading, and to use designated routes to prevent avoidable crashes.

He also urged motorists to cooperate with enforcement personnel and drive responsibly, stressing that the operation’s ultimate objective was to prevent road traffic crashes, save lives, and ensure safer road transportation along the corridor.

The FRSC reiterated its commitment to maintaining safer roads through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment and collaboration with relevant security and traffic management agencies.
