The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dauda Biu has cautioned all road users, including drivers of campaign convoys to avoid excessive speed and reckless driving ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Mr Biu said this while reacting to the series of crashes that have occurred since the commencement of the electioneering campaigns involving political party convoys and other convoys which had led to preventable loss of lives.

In a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, on Tuesday in Abuja, Mr Biu urged the drivers to conform to established road traffic regulations to avoid road traffic crashes.

He said that the warning became necessary even as political parties intensified their campaigns for the general elections.

The corps marshal registered his dissatisfaction, saying that in spite of repeated warnings and appeals that the Corps had made to drivers, they still violated established laws.

Mr Biu appreciated the orderly manner in which some of the political parties conducted their political engagements in strict adherence to road traffic rules.

According to him, the corps is determined to entrench ease of movement and safety for vehicular and human traffic.

“Commanding Officers have been directed to enhance visibility of patrol teams in identified strategic locations.

“Part of efforts the Corps has put in place include the deployment of more operational vehicles and manpower to combat envisioned traffic gridlocks.

“Especially the ones that will be occasioned by series of political activities geared towards the oncoming general elections,” he said.
