The corps marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, has extended the ongoing nationwide end-of-year highway monitoring to Kogi as part of intensified efforts to ensure safer roads during the festive travel season.

The corps marshal’s visit to Lokoja followed his earlier personal monitoring of the Kaduna-Zaria-Kano highway.

The on-the-spot assessment by the FRSC boss prompted the immediate deployment of additional personnel and equipment to clear traffic congestion and restore free vehicular movement along the busy corridor.

Speaking at the Strategic Operations Zero exercise in Lokoja, Mr Mohammed said the extended monitoring reflected the corps’ zero-tolerance stance against traffic violations.

He said the measure was particularly important during the end-of-year period, when vehicular movement increases significantly nationwide.

According to him, the hands-on approach to supervision was aimed at boosting operational efficiency and strengthening enforcement nationwide.

“This is also sending a clear message that reckless driving, overloading, and other unsafe practices will not be tolerated on Nigerian highways,” he said.

The corps marshal urged motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid overloading, and exercise patience while travelling during the festive season.

He also called on road users to cooperate fully with officers on duty to ensure smooth traffic flow and enhance safety for all.

Mr Mohammed emphasised that sustained compliance with traffic regulations remains critical to reducing road crashes, saving lives, and guaranteeing safer highways nationwide.

He said this was especially important during periods of heightened travel activities, such as the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The corps marshal reassured Nigerians of the FRSC’s commitment to maintaining a strong presence on major highways throughout the festive season and beyond, in line with its mandate to promote safe road use and protect lives and property.
