German chancellor preaches solidarity on Berlin Wall 35th anniversary

On the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz praised the event as an example of European cohesion.
The fall of the Berlin Wall was the “happy high point of a pan-European development,” Mr Scholz emphasised in his video message for the anniversary on Saturday, according to a pre-released text of his speech.
In view of the current global political situation, Mr Scholz once again called for solidarity.
He stated, “Our shared history in the autumn of 1989 shows us how we achieve our goals: by standing together – for peace and freedom, for security and prosperity, for the rule of law and democracy.’’
According to Mr Scholz, the meeting of the European political community and the EU prime ministers in Budapest, which the chancellor attended on Friday, was also used to strengthen this unity.
