God gave Nigeria victory over Côte d’Ivoire: Peseiro

Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro thanked God after Nigeria secured a narrow 1-0 win over the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations hosts Côte d’Ivoire at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Ebimpe on Thursday.
The 63-year-old said Nigeria deserved the win against the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire.
“God didn’t take this from us,” the Super Eagles coach said in a post-match press briefing.
He added, “God gave us because we deserve it.”
Close to 50,000 spectators watched the game in the stadium on Thursday.
William Troost-Ekong’s second-half penalty, which VAR awarded after Victor Osimhen was fouled inside the 18-yard box, was all that Nigeria needed to steal the crucial three points in the game.
With the victory, Nigeria moved to second in Group A with four points and only behind Equatorial Guinea, who defeated Guinea-Bissau 4-1 earlier in the day because of an inferior goal difference.
Hosts Côte d’Ivoire are third in the group with three points, while Guinea-Bissau sit last with no point after losing their first two matches.
