‘Good Samaritan’ arrested for robbery, rape in Ondo

Johnson Joseph, a suspected armed robber, has been nabbed by detectives from the Ondo State Police Command.
Mr Joseph, 22, was arrested along the Bolorunduro in Ondo East LGA following complaints of escapades.
The state police spokeswoman, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the arrest of the ‘notorious suspect’ in a statement in Akure on Thursday at noon.
Mrs Odunlami- Omisanya revealed that Mr Joseph, who pretended to be a “good Samaritan”, was arrested after a complaint of ‘rape and armed robbery’ that was lodged against him at the station by one of his victims.
“The suspect, one Johnson Joseph, who pretended to be a good Samaritan, volunteered to help the victim where she was stranded but later robbed her of the sum of N102,000,000, phone and raped her at gunpoint on the way in an isolated area.
“The suspect was later arrested by Police Operatives on routine patrol in the Command,” the police spokeswoman added.
She further explained that the suspect allegedly confessed to having robbed many people of their belongings and valuables.
Ms Odunlami-Omisanya said four of his victims were contacted through the recovered phones from the suspect, and they all identified him as having attacked and robbed them of their belongings.
“A black unregistered TVS ladies’ motorcycle, one cut-to-size gun with bullets, six mobile phones and a POS machine were recovered from him,” she stated.
She, however, added that the suspect would be charged in court after the conclusion of an investigation.
