Gov. Makinde declares intention to run for second term as Oyo governor

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, has declared his intention to run for a second term as the state governor.
Mr Makinde made this known in his bi-monthly newsletter released to subscribers on Thursday evening.
The governor said he had promised in the last newsletter that he would have decided whether to run again for office by the time he send the latest issue..
“Sometimes last week, I picked up the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for a second term as the elected Governor of the good people of Oyo State,” Mr Makinde disclosed. “Yes, I am presenting myself again to serve.”
The governor noted that “Oyo State has seen unprecedented development in all sectors with no zone left behind” since he assumed office in 2019.
“But, as every engineer would tell you, our work is not done until all problems are addressed,” he continued.“We believe we have laid a solid foundation for solving the problems of moving the good people of Oyo State from poverty to prosperity.”
“We would love an opportunity to build on that foundation. So now, the ball is, once again, in your court,” Mr Makinde added.
Mr Makinde, an accomplished businessman who cut his teeth providing engineering services to oil companies, shocked the then-ruling All Progressives Congress in Oyo State to emerge as governor.
He has been credited with providing innovative and broad based leadership in Oyo but his critics excoriate him for abandoning the political establishment that helped him to gain power.
He will face battles in his quest to continue in power both from opposition APC and within his Peoples Democratic Party faithful.
