Gov. Mbah pledges three months to establish Enugu Disability Commission

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has pledged to establish the state disability commission within the next three months.
The Enugu State Disability Commission, a fall out of the Enugu State Persons With Disabilities Law 2023, will enhance the welfare of Persons With Disabilities in the state.
Mr Mbah gave the assurance on Saturday in Enugu while answering questions based on the need for the commission during a Town Hall Meeting, with the theme: “Governance issues: The journey so far.”
He said, “I know I have assented to your bill into law late last year (2023). I am also assuring you that before the next town hall meeting in the first quarter of 2025; there will be an Enugu State Disability Commission. As part of the plan, I will constitute the board of the commission immediately. This is to show our commitment to ensure that the commission becomes operational as soon as possible and issues of the disability community in the state are well addressed.”
Reacting, Chairman, Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, Enugu State chapter, Onyebuchi Mba, said that the commission would address the challenges faced by PWDs.
Some of them are public places accessibility, education, employment and healthcare among others.
Mr Mbah said, “The disability community in Enugu State welcomes the governor’s pronouncement with joy and we are expressing gratitude to him. We believe that the establishment of the commission will mark a significant milestone in our struggle for inclusion and equality.’’
