Helen Mutfwang, the wife of the Plateau State governor, has commissioned a measles-rubella vaccine campaign to protect children in the state.

Mrs Mutfwang, on Monday in Jos, said the campaign was about immunisation and investing in the health and future of children.

She added that it was also to ensure that every child in Plateau had access to life-saving vaccines and the opportunity to thrive.

The governor’s wife explained that the campaign would ensure the good health and well-being of children against devastating consequences, particularly the vulnerable ones.

“We can now deal with measles and rubella and their severe complications of deafness, blindness, heart defects, brain damage, and even death in children,” said Mrs Mutfwang.

She added that with the advancement in medical science and the availability of effective vaccines, the power to prevent diseases and safeguard the future of children had been made possible.

Furthermore, she said that in alignment with the federal government’s initiative, the Governor Caleb Mutfwang-led administration was fully committed to making these vaccines widely available and easily accessible in all healthcare facilities.

The governor’s wife commended partners, healthcare workers, and volunteers, who had worked tirelessly to make the campaign a reality.

She, however, urged parents, guardians, and caregivers to take advantage of the opportunity by ensuring that all children between the ages of nine months and 15 years received the lifesaving vaccine to build a healthier future.

Mrs Mutfwang also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, healthcare workers, and community influencers to actively support the campaign and ensure it achieved full coverage.
