Gov. Ahmed Ododo of Kogi, on Wednesday, distributed palliatives to 1,500 widows from the 21 local government areas of the state, demonstrating his administration’s commitment to the welfare of citizens.

Speaking at the distribution event in Lokoja, Mr Ododo explained that the gesture aimed to alleviate the economic hardship faced by vulnerable groups in the state.

He emphasised that his administration would continue to empower women and improve the welfare of the less privileged.

He said the palliatives were part of ongoing interventions under the Renewed Hope Initiative of the first lady, Oluremi Tinubu.

“These efforts are aligned with Ododo’s agenda to provide meaningful relief and sustainable support to the state’s most vulnerable citizens.”

Mr Ododo further stressed the importance of supporting widows and vulnerable groups, making them feel valued and offering them a better quality of life.

“Caring for widows are not only the job of government; it is a moral duty, a sacred responsibility of well-meaning citizens,” he said.

He assured the beneficiaries that they were not forgotten, highlighting plans to create a support system that included skills training, access to healthcare, small business funding, and educational opportunities for their children.

The governor urged the beneficiaries to use the support to uplift their families and contribute to their communities.

He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to prioritising the needs of society, particularly women and children.

The items distributed included bags of rice, clothing materials, cash donations, and other food items.
