Gov Radda vows to combat human trafficking, gender-based violence in Katsina

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina has reiterated his commitment to tackle gender-based violence (GBV) and human trafficking in the state.
The governor spoke during a courtesy visit by the state task force committee on GBV, led by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Fadila Mohammed-Dikko, on Friday in Katsina.
Mr Radda commended the committee for the feat achieved in the rehabilitation of victims of violence and mitigating the effects of child abuse and trafficking.
The governor stressed the need for proactive strategies to address the spate of violence, especially sexual abuse against women.
“We must adopt more robust measures to free Katsina State from all forms of violence and child abuse.
“My administration is determined to provide all necessary resources for the task force to fulfil its mandate effectively.
“We recognise the critical role of the task force in safeguarding our citizens, particularly the most vulnerable,” he said.
Earlier, Ms Mohammed-Dikko said the committee has made significant progress in its campaign against trafficking and GBV since its inception.
She said the committee conducted medical outreach, provided school bags, skills training and psychological support services to 110 victims of trafficking, as well as provision of soft loans and scholarships to over 100 youths.
The commissioner said the committee was also conducting public awareness on the ills of human trafficking and GBV through radio programmes.
Ms Mohammed-Dikko further identified inadequate funding as a significant challenge militating against the effective operation of the committee.
