Governor Bago salutes Gowon at 90

The governor says Mr Gowon had written his name in gold and posterity will be kind to him.

Gov. Umaru Bago of Niger has congratulated the former Head of State, Retired Gen. Yakubu Gowon on his 90th birthday.

This is contained in a statement by his chief press secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, on Saturday in Minna.

Mr Bago describes the former Nigerian leader as a symbol of humility, unity, and patriotism.

He recalled the remarkable leadership Mr Gowon offered to the nation, where he initiated and implemented policies for peace building and unity of the country.

The governor says Mr Gowon had written his name in gold and posterity will be kind to him.

“It is delightful to celebrate a great leader with high moral standards on his birthday and God will continue to protect  Gowon,” said.

He prayed for God to keep him in good health and grant him more wisdom for the benefit of humanity.
