Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra has urged residents to actively condemn criminal activities in society, emphasising that security is a collective responsibility.

Mr Soludo made the call on Sunday during the thanksgiving service to mark the beginning of the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day commemoration in Awka.

He stated that addressing insecurity required the involvement of community, religious, and traditional leaders, as well as individual responsibility in reporting suspicious activities and participating in neighbourhood watch initiatives.

Mr Soludo said that the thanksgiving service not only honoured the fallen heroes but also served as a call to action against criminality.

He described the criminals as organised groups perpetuating ideologies linked to idolatry, stressing that they live among the community and must be confronted.

The governor further reminded citizens of their civic duty to ensure security, urging them to report any suspicious activity with the phrase, “If you see something, say something.”

He also highlighted the essential role of the Armed Forces in maintaining peace and security and offered condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in service.

Additionally, Mr Soludo prayed for strength and protection for those continuing to serve.

Archbishop Most Rev. Alexander Ibezim of the Province of the Niger pledged continued support for the Soludo administration, while Ven. Clement Mgbemena encouraged Christians to pray for the government’s success and unity.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15, honours the sacrifices of those who served in various wars, including the Nigerian Civil War and peace support operations worldwide.
