The Movement for Election of Nigerian President of Igbo Extraction has called on Nigerians to pray to end incessant killings and abductions in the country.

The Convener of the movement, Vincent Ezekwueme, made the call in his Easter message in Enugu on Friday.

Mr Ezekwueme urged church leaders to use Easter to call on Christians to embark on fasting and prayer for Gods intervention in the growing spate of criminal activities.

He called on Christians to show love, empathy, compassion and be their brother’s keeper.

Mr Ezekwueme said “It is very unfortunate and despicable that every day, there are sad and painful stories of killings, destruction and lawlessness in the society,” noting that “only love for God and humanity that will restore normalcy, tranquility, peace and justice.”

According to him, pertinently, “for Easter to be meaningful and effective in our lives, we must forgive one another, live for good of others, just as Christ lived and died for us.

“I passionately urge leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to call for seven days fasting and praying for the restoration of security, peace and tranquility and for aggrieved citizens to forgive one another and seek and harmonious coexistence”.

Mr Ezekwueme urged government and the political class to double their efforts towards protecting and defending sanctity, sacredness, dignity and respect for human persons and lives.

“I also call for the empowering of youths through education, skills acquisition, poverty alleviation and eradication, because with a gun you can kill a terrorist, but with education and skill acquisition you can kill terrorism itself.

“Traditional rulers and community leaders should also use this period to reconcile warring and aggrieved members as well as seek ways and means of restoring adequate security in their various communities in the spirit of Easter,” he added.
