Group to train sports enthusiasts on life after basketball

A non-governmental organisation, Vita Initiative, has announced plans to train 300 participants to invest in life after a career in basketball.
The founder of the organisation, Kingsley Aigbonoga, confirmed on Sunday that the maiden edition of the workshop would hold on November 4 in Abuja.
Themed “Basketball Life and Leadership: The well-rounded athlete”, the workshop would focus on inspiring the youths to look beyond the sport to invest in life after basketball.
Mr Aigbonoga said the workshop aims to stir up “leadership consciousness in young people and to awaken the entrepreneurship spirit within them.”
“I have been around basketball almost all my adult life and I’ve noticed that a lot of basketball players in this country don’t have plans for their lives after basketball,” he said.
“Most of them waste precious time thinking about going abroad to ply their trade.
“The hard truth is that only a few make it to the NBA and before you know it they hit retirement age and have no investment to fall back on,” Mr Aigbonoga added.
According to him, the workshop will feature seasoned resource persons, including present and ex-basketball players.
