Guard arraigned over alleged theft of items valued at N3.28 million

A 35-year-old security guard, Joshua Hassan, was on Wednesday, arraigned in a Magistrates’ Court in Gwagwalada, Abuja for alleged negligent conduct.
The police charged the defendant on a two-court bordering on theft by servant and negligent conduct.
The Prosecuting Counsel, Abdullahi Tanko, told the court that the complainant, Bashiru Mohammed of FCT College of Education, Zuba, reported the matter at the police station on February 11.
Mr Tanko said that the defendant was employed as a security guard at Ifena Filling Station in Gwagwalada.
The prosecutor said that sometime in April 2024, he dishonestly stole electrical motor machine valued at N1.280 million.
He said that the defendant also stole five units of pump valued N1.6 million, and an armoured cable valued N400,000, totalling N3.280 million.
Mr Tanko said that during police investigation, the defendant confessed to have sold the motorised electrical motor machine to Suleiman Hussani at N15,000.
The police prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 316 and 289 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Olatunji Oladunmoye admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N2 million with two reasonable sureties in like sum.
Oladunmoye ordered that the sureties must reside in verifiable addresses within the jurisdiction of the court, and adjourned the case until March 12, for hearing.
