Gunmen kill five people in South Africa

At least five people were killed in a shooting in NY 50, Gugulethu, Cape Town, South Africa, on Monday.
A statement by the South African Police confirmed that the shooting happened in the early hours of Monday.
“SAPS Detectives attached to the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit are investigating a multiple murder and an attempted murder following a shooting incident in NY 50, Gugulethu, during the early hours of Monday, 27/07, in which five people lost their lives and another was injured,” the statement said.
It added, “Four men and one woman, aged between 19 and 23, were declared deceased at the scene by medical personnel. A 20 year-old woman who sustained gunshot wounds was transported to a medical facility for treatment.”
According to the statement, preliminary investigations indicate that two unidentified armed men forced their way into the house by kicking open the front door. The suspects allegedly demanded a firearm before opening fire on the occupants. They fled the scene and have not yet been arrested.
The motive for the shooting is yet to be ascertained. However, the Acting Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Major General Luyanda Damoyi, strongly condemned the attack and directed detectives to pursue all available leads to bring those responsible to justice.
