Lagos govt pledges enabling environment for corps members

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos has promised corps members full government backing as they start their national service, assuring a supportive environment for effective service.
Mr Sanwo-Olu, represented by the commissioner, youth and social development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, said this at the swearing-in of the 2025 Batch C held in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp, Iyana-Ipaja.
He encouraged the corps members to embrace national service with dedication.
“As you have been inducted into the national service today, this journey may seem long, but it is a short period to show patriotism to the nation and leave a positive impact.
“I wish to acknowledge the contributions of the corps members before you, those who served the nation diligently, contributing their quota to the development of the state in every sector.
“I urge you to draw inspiration from their laudable feats by becoming the change you want to see. Lagos is a land of endless opportunities; take advantage of these opportunities through this orientation course.
“On our part, the Lagos State Government will continue to create an enabling environment for you to discharge your duties and serve the nation diligently.
“The security of lives and properties of all citizens in our dear state remains the top priority of this government,” Mr Sanwo-Olu said.
He advised them to maximise opportunities within the orientation programme, build skills, networks, and impact.
Earlier, Christina Salmwang, state coordinator NYSC Lagos, said Lagos received 7,138 corps members.
She noted that the figure includes those dislodged to neighbouring states, for a three-week orientation designed to strengthen discipline, resilience and teamwork for national service.
Mrs Salmwang declared that the scheme has become a globally recognised platform for practical learning that equips corps members with the confidence, exposure and skills required to address real-life challenges effectively.
“You need to recognise that the National Service creates opportunities to develop as influencers, high achievers and patriots dedicated to building a united Nigeria, and we appreciate support,” she added.
She explained that the orientation course aims to instil leadership qualities in corps members, such as diligence, loyalty, integrity, perseverance, courage, mental discipline, and peaceful coexistence.
“You need to embrace the training modules because they will build your attitude, strengthen your mental discipline and equip you with competencies required to excel throughout your national service and beyond,” she said.
The oath of allegiance was administered to the batch by Justice Rosul Adewale, representative of the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba.
