Herder, 35, arraigned over alleged stealing of employer’s cows worth N5.2 million

A herdsman, Umaru Abubakar, 35, was arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday over alleged theft of 13 cows valued at N5. 2 million from his employer.
Abubakar of undisclosed address was charged with one count of stealing, which he pleaded not guilty to.
The prosecuting counsel, Inspector Sikiru Opaleye, alleged that the defendant between August 31, 2018, and September 2, 2019, at Lanlate area of Oyo State, stole 13 cows valued at N5.2million from his employer.
Mr Opaleye said the cows were property of one Olalekan Ishaq.
He said the offence was contrary to Section 383 and punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
Defence Counsel, B. R. Omotosho, applied for the defendant’s bail in most liberal terms.
The Chief Magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N2.5 million with two sureties in like sum.
Ms Ogunkanmi said one of the sureties must be a landed property owner and a blood relative of the defendant.
She, thereafter, adjourned the matter until January 19, 2026, for hearing.
