A part-time student of sociology at the Kaduna State University (KASU), Abdullahi Salisu, says he makes an average of N2 million monthly from painting, paint production and sales.

Mr Salisu, who runs a paint business at Old Panteka Market Kaduna, said this during an interview in Kaduna on Wednesday.

Mr Salisu said his father, Alhaji Salisu, was also into the business, and he was sent to learn the skill in 2012 at Panteka Market.

He said he started his own paint business with N500,000 in 2024,and began paint production in 2025 where he does emulsion, satin and matte paint.

“Starting my own paint business, not being under anyone is one of the best decisions I have made. I am now married and have a car from the business. I make an average of N50,000  daily. I have trained over 25 youths” he said.

Mr Salisu said he also trained 13 people through the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) funded by the Federal Government, where students were taught the practical and theoretical aspect of the skill.

“There has been improvement in colours, we can now create a variety of colours unlike before and we can now re-create any designs and paints” he said.

He added that lack of standard price for paints by dealers and people who don’t pay in full were some of the major challenges facing the business.

Salisu called on youths to work hard and engage in business no matter how small to be self-reliant.
