Jose Peseiro, Portuguese coach, said he never entered any agreement to coach Nigerian Super Eagles contrary to statement by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) claiming he would resume duty after African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The NFF on December 29, 2021, announced that Peseiro would take over management of the Nigerian Super Eagles after AFCON.

“After several weeks of negotiations, during which there were several news, from the Nigerian Football Federation, that I would be the coach of their team, from the end of the CAN 2021,” Peseiro said in an Instagram post on Wednesday, debunking claims that he agreed to coach the Super Eagles.

“A fact that I never confirmed, and these did not materialize due to disagreement regarding contractual clauses and financial matters,” he added.

Peseiro’s statement comes few days after  the NFF made a U-turn, announcing Austin Eguavoen as interim manager for the Super Eagles.

In a statement, the NFF said its “Board has approved a recommendation of the Technical and Development Committee retaining Augustine Eguavoen as Technical Director/Technical Adviser (interim) while Emmanuel Amuneke becomes the Chief Coach of the Super Eagles.”
