President Bola Tinubu says his administration will deploy emerging technologies and intelligence-driven operations to combat contemporary security threats and protect Nigerians’ lives.

Mr Tinubu made the pledge on Monday at the grand finale of the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration and African Land Forces Forum (ALFF) in Port Harcourt, Rivers.

He was represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

The president said his administration was fervently driving the modernisation of the nation’s armed forces by investing in modern hardware and building the capacity of military personnel to improve their operational planning and combat readiness.

“My administration is firmly committed to countering contemporary threats through the adoption of emerging technologies and the building of capacity across all battle spaces, thereby improving operational planning and combat readiness,” he said.

Mr Tinubu added his administration was also prioritising research, development and local defence production through the revitalisation of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), saying it is key to strengthening Nigeria’s military capability and reducing reliance on foreign arms.

He said the partnership with the African Land Forces Forum would deepen defence cooperation, promote innovation and boost Nigeria’s leadership in defence diplomacy.

The president praised members of the armed forces for their sacrifices in defending the country, assuring families of fallen soldiers that their contributions would not be forgotten.

“Their devotion to neutralising threats in this part of the world extends beyond our borders. It becomes a real contribution to global security, peace, and stability,” Mr Tinubu stated, according to a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, the vice-president’s spokesperson.

The president praised members of the armed forces for their sacrifices, saying their efforts contribute not only to Nigeria’s security but also to regional and global peace.

He also assured families of fallen soldiers that their sacrifices would not be forgotten.

Army chief Waidi Shaibu said the collaboration achieved its objectives of fostering regional and global cooperation, innovation, and strategic dialogue in defence and security across Africa.
