A driver, Mumini Bello, 52, on Friday, appeared before the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly killing two siblings through reckless driving.

Mr Bello, whose address was not provided, is facing a four-count charge bordering on reckless driving.

He, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Elisha Tellang, said that Mr Bello committed the offence on January 3 at Oke Ibadan Estate, Iyana Church, Ibadan.

Mr Tellang alleged that the defendant drove a Toyota Tacoma van recklessly on the highway, without due regard for other road users.

He alleged that the reckless driving led to the killing of one eight-year-old girl, Inioluwa Oladimeji, and her younger brother, Obaloluwa Oladimeji.

Narrating the incident in court, Mr Tellang alleged that the vehicle veered off the road, smashed into a building and ran over two siblings in their sleep, killing them on the spot.

He alleged that the vehicle also hit and injured a passer-by, one Olalekan Quweel, 15.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened the provisions of Section 3(1) of the Reckless and Dangerous Driving Act of Oyo State, 2000, and Section 18 of the Road Traffic Act of Oyo State, 2000.

The magistrate, Moyosore Atanda, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million, with two sureties in like sum.

Ms Atanda later adjourned the case to March 10 for hearing.
