The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has urged police officers to join the Nigeria Police Cooperative Multi-Purpose Society Limited to enhance their welfare and promote savings.

He made the call on Thursday during the POLCOOP 27th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Ikeja, Lagos State.

Mr Egbetokun was represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 7, Abuja, Victor Olaiya.

The IG, who is the president of POLCOOP, urged officers to increase their savings through the cooperative scheme.

He said, “The message is clear: we have compulsory and voluntary contributions. I urge you to increase your voluntary contribution, which will give you the edge of a better future. The cooperative will look into your compulsory savings so that at the end of your service, you will go home with something tangible.”

He said that the board would sit to work out modalities to ensure something good for officers.

According to the police boss, the cooperative was doing very well.

“The facts speak for themselves. Across the states of the federation, our projects are visible for all to see,” Mr Egbetokun said.

The IG said that aside from police cooperation, the force had police pensions and police insurance, which were all solid.

He stated, “Members of the Nigeria Police Force Microfinance Bank and pension scheme attest to its consistency and generous dividends. Many officers are lucky to own property in Abuja.’’

According to him, the occasion celebrated another milestone and reflected the cooperative’s commitment to service, accountability, and support for members’ welfare and empowerment.

He stated, “This event marks not just a milestone celebration but also reflects the society’s steadfast commitment to unity, transparency, and service. As it continues to empower members financially, support their welfare, and promote economic stability for improved productivity and well-being.’’

He commended the management committee for its visionary leadership and the members for their loyalty and trust.

“As you deliberate on critical issues at this AGM, we have resolutions to further strengthen society, expand its frontiers and deepen the culture of transparency, unity and progress,” he said.

Speaking, Chairman of the Board of Directors of POLCOOP, DIG Bode Adeleke (retd), said that members’ savings were safe; withdrawals were quick; and support services remained available.

“Members’ savings are secured; withdrawals are prompt; and we continue to provide essential services such as housing loans and other necessary support. We have a clear record of our activities, and we urge members to keep trusting us, as their money is safe,” Mr Adeleke said.

The Secretary of POLCOOP, AIG Oyediran Oyeyemi (retd), said that the IG was committed to improving members’ welfare by promoting savings, loans, affordable goods, and housing support.

Mr Oyeyemi reaffirmed the IG’s dedication to strengthening the cooperative to enhance members’ welfare through savings, easy access to loans, affordable goods, vehicle financing, and housing support.
