IGP Egbetokun pledges adequate deployment of assets to secure oil facilities

The acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has pledged to deploy adequate assets to enhance the security of oil facilities in the country.
This is contained in a statement by the Force spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Friday in Abuja.
Mr Egbetokun made the pledge during a visit by the executive secretary and heads of security of oil companies in Nigeria under the umbrella of the Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS).
Mr Egbetokun called for collaboration with stakeholders to optimise security within the Nigerian oil and gas sector.
He said that the collaboration would address oil theft, bolster the protection of critical oil and gas infrastructure and foster synergy among various security agencies in the sector.
According to him, the oil and gas industry plays a pivotal role in Nigeria’s economy, and as such, the safety and security of its operations is of paramount importance.
“This collaboration underscores the shared commitment to safeguarding the industry and addressing security threats that impact its stability and efficiency.
“It will improve community engagement and corporate social responsibility, operational support, as well as training programmes and operational simulations for operatives,” he said.
The police boss reiterated his commitment to establish a special intervention squad, whose operation would include protecting oil and gas businesses and facilities in Nigeria.
