The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, on Saturday visited the scene of a tragic attack and school abduction in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Anthony Placid, spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, said in a statement on Saturday that the IGP expressed deep concern and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of victims of the attack.

Mr Disu, who described the attack as “cruel and unacceptable,” promised to deploy all necessary resources to restore normalcy to the affected communities.

The IGP, accompanied by the Kwara State Police Commissioner, Ojo Adekimi, and the Commissioner of Police, Schools Protection Squad, Abayomi Shogunle, was received by the Oyo State Police Commissioner, Abimbola Olugbenga, who briefed him on ongoing rescue efforts and security deployments.

Mr Disu assured residents, parents and guardians that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, had intensified coordinated search-and-rescue operations, strengthened intelligence gathering and deployed tactical units to secure the release of the victims and apprehend the suspects behind the attack.

The IGP also ordered the deployment of additional tactical and intelligence resources to reinforce ongoing operations in the affected community and surrounding forests.

Earlier on Friday, Peoples Gazette reported that suspected gunmen invaded two communities in Oriire Local Government Area of the state, abducted pupils and staff, and killed two people during the attack.

In an update on Saturday, the Oyo State government announced that the suspected kidnappers were currently trapped within the national park axis between northern Oyo and southern Kwara states.
