Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has dissociated himself from the ongoing political coalition, saying he remains a member of the Labour Party and busy with governance in the state.

Mr Otti spoke during an interactive session with members of the Abia State Global Economic Council in Umuahia on Wednesday, shortly after a coalition party announced adoption of African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mr Otti said, “I also have the right to state that I’m still a member of the Labour Party. I’m not looking for where to decamp to. The second point is about the coalition. A lot of people are asking me, are you a member of the coalition? My response is: have you seen my name? Have you seen me attend any coalition meeting? We are just busy doing the work Abia people have given me. I’m happy where I am.”

Mr Otti’s statement followed adoption of the ADC, as the political party for the coalition engineered by some politicians on Tuesday to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 20227.

The new coalition announced a former Senate president, David Mark and a former governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola as its national chairman and national secretary, respectively.

The coalition has politicians such Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai and Kayode Fayemi.
