Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the minister of interior, says he’s prepared to “work and also deliver results” as he assumed office at the ministry.

Mr Tunji-Ojo stated this on Monday in Abuja during his maiden meeting with heads of the agencies under the supervision of the ministry.

“I am here to work, but in working we must have a good environment. The work of this ministry affects everyone, whether you are rich or poor. I am here to make a change and to deliver results, and I need you to help me do that.

“I don’t lead from the back; I lead from the front. We will try, and we will do our best to provide leadership built on the foundation of your support,” he said.

The meeting, Peoples Gazette learnt, was also attended by the controller-general of Nigerian Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa; the acting comptroller-general of immigration, Adepoju Carol Wura-Ola; the controller-general of the Federal Fire Service, Abdulganiyu Jaji; the commandant-general of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Audi.

Mr Tunji-Ojo, who was appointed by President Bola Tinubu, was among the 45 cabinet members sworn into office in Abuja, on Monday.

Before he was appointed minister of interior, Mr Tunji-Ojo was the federal lawmaker representing Akoko North East and West Federal Constituency of Ondo State in the National Assembly.

Although, he resigned his membership of the House Assembly in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Tajudeen Abbas, on Friday.

However, Mr Tinubu initially slated Mr Tunji-Ojo to head the newly created ministry of marine and blue economy but he was reassigned to the ministry of interior in a brief cabinet reshuffle, on Sunday.

While resuming office on Monday, Mr Tunji-Ojo said he would not be deterred, especially in delivering on the constitutional mandate of ensuring the ministry meets its target goals.

He explained that he’s ready to partner with all the paramilitary agencies and chiefs in the country, adding that he will not condole dereliction of duty.

He also vowed to hold heads of the paramilitary agencies responsible if there’s sabotage of government efforts in their respective offices.

“Just as Mr President (Tinubu) will hold me accountable for whatever happens in the Ministry of Interior, I will never hold your subordinates responsible for anything; I will hold you responsible for anything that goes wrong,” he said.

Remarking, the permanent secretary of the ministry, Oluwatoyi Akinlade promised to cooperate and support the minister in discharging his duty effectively.
