I’m unaware of plan to stop Fubara from seeking re-election, says APC spokesman

Mr Morka stated, “The governor is the leader of our party in all the states of Nigeria, not just in the Rivers State. That we’ve made very clear.”

The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has said he is unaware of plan by the party to stop Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara from seeking re-election on the party’s platform.

Mr Morka, who spoke during an interview on Channels Television on Friday, said there was no such agreement at the party level.

He said, “Within the APC? I am not aware of that at the APC level. I’m the party spokesman, and as far as the party is concerned, the All Progressives Congress, I am not aware of any arrangement, any reverse thing.

He said some questions often generate responses that might not reflect reality or a proper understanding of the relationship between the party and the executive arm of government.

“The governor is the leader of our party in all the states of Nigeria, not just in the Rivers State. That we’ve made very clear,” Mr Morka said.

He explained that the authority to conduct elections and party primaries rests solely with the national leadership of the party.

Mr Morka stated, “When it comes to elections, there is only one authority that has the power to manage our elections, and that is the national party leadership.

“The National Working Committee of the party has the authority to conduct primaries, not the governors. The governors have never conducted elections for the party, not in our party and not in any party, as far as I know.”

Mr Fubara dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling APC amid a leadership tussle with his godfather and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
