Imam, three others arrested for beating worshipper to death in Osogbo

Mr Ojelabi said the police got reports that a man was beaten at a mosque in Osogbo on Friday and quickly dispatched officers to the scene.

The police in Osun State have arrested four persons, including an imam, for the death of a yet-to-be-identified male mosque worshipper on Friday in Osogbo.

The state police spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, stated this in Osogbo on Saturday.

Mr Ojelabi said the police got reports that a man was beaten around a mosque in Osogbo on Friday and quickly dispatched officers to the scene.

He said that when the police got to the scene, they found the man unconscious, with bruises all over his body indicating that he was beaten.

Mr Ojelabi stated, “The officers quickly took the victim to the nearest hospital, which is Jaleyemi Hospital, Osogbo. It was at the hospital that they confirmed the victim dead. Thereafter, the police returned to the scene and arrested four persons, including the imam of the Ogo-Oluwa mosque, where the victim was discovered. Investigation is, however, ongoing to really unravel what really happened.”

Investigation by indicated that the unidentified man went to the Ogo-Oluwa mosque for early morning prayers, but reportedly attacked the imam mid-service.

It was also learnt that the worshippers prevented him from injuring the imam, overpowered and beat him up, and he become unconscious.
