The Independent National Electoral Commission said that the turnout of eligible residents for the ongoing continuous voter registration in Jos, Plateau State, has been impressive.

The Electoral Officer (EO) of Jos North Local Government Area, Abubakar Abdullahi, disclosed this on Tuesday in Jos.

Recall that INEC commenced the exercise with the online pre-registration on August 18, while the physical biometric capturing started on August 25.

Mr Abdullahi, who described the exercise as seamless, commended eligible Plateau residents for availing themselves for the CVR.

He said, “As you can see, the registration officers are in the conference hall attending to all categories of registrants. Our officers are attending to those for fresh registration, transfers, corrections, card loss, among others. The turnout across the 17 LGAs of the state has so far been commendable; we have been comparing notes with colleagues in other LGAs and every part of the state is recording impressive turnout.’’

The electoral officer said that the commission made adequate provision to address any technical glitches that may occur during the exercise.

He explained that the registration process was now better and faster, insisting that INEC had upgraded its gadgets.

He said, “Our devices have been performing wonderfully well. The issue of poor network is not really a challenge because if it slows down now, it will pick up almost shortly. The commission has made adequate provision to take care of any network issue in any part of the country.’’.

Speaking, Jolene Sati, commended INEC for the orderliness and seamless nature of the exercise.

She said, “It didn’t take me up to 20 minutes to get done with the whole process. Though I’m here to transfer to a new voting point and effect some corrections, I’m highly impressed with the entire process. I must also commend the staff of INEC for their peaceful conduct; the registration officers are not just mature, but respectful and professional. With what I have seen here today, it shows that we are already working towards credible and transparent elections in Nigeria.’’

At the commission’s state headquarters, Miango road, Jos, and that of Jos South LGA, the turnout was also impressive.
